Tom Luer is a freelance saxophonist who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. Tom's recent performance credits include the Toshiko Akiyosi/Lew Tabackan West Coast Renunion Band, Engelbert Humperdinck, the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band, Wayne Bergeron Big Band, Bill Holman Band, Poncho Sanchez, and a tour with Queen Latifah to promote her album “Travlin’ Light”. Television appearances include the 2007 American Music Awards, the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, and the Ellen DeGeneres show.
In January, 2011, Tom released his debut recording as a leader, “Project Popular”, on Origin Arts Records. Additional recording appearances include the Mike Barone Big Band “Flight of the Bumblebee” on Rhubarb Recordings, Curt Berg and the Avon St. Quintet “At Stagg St. Studio” on Origin Records, and on Paul Tynan and Aaron Lington’s “Bicoastal Collective”, on OA2 Records. Tom also serves on the faculty at Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, CA, where he teaches Jazz Saxophone, Jazz Improvisation and Jazz History. Additional teaching experience includes faculty positions at the University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, and Bethel College.
